“Masaya” L Deluxe spreader bar hammock, 100% cotton, handmade in Nicaragua. Exclusive Hamac del Sol model, entirely hand-woven with careful fringe work on both ends. This is one of our best-sellers: its meticulous handmade production can take several days, and as we only produce it twice a year, stock is sometimes limited. Craftsmanship passed down from generation to generation: artisans begin by twisting the cotton on a wheel to strengthen the threads, then weave them on a wooden loom to form the body of the hammock. The weaving of the decorative fringes, locally called “los flecos,” is traditionally done by female artisans using a technique passed down through families — this is often the most delicate step, as the fringes provide the elegant final touch to the hammock. Then comes the assembly: the fringes are attached to the body of the hammock, the wooden bars and ornaments are securely knotted to reinforce the whole, then the hammock is carefully washed and dried for a soft and clean feel. Allow two to five days for a standard hammock, and up to a week or more for this “Masaya” Deluxe model, depending on the number of artisans involved and their level of experience. A sturdy and comfortable hammock, a true piece of Nicaraguan craftsmanship.
